THE 4TH CHINA DAILY ‘BELT AND ROAD’ YOUTH ENGLISH SPEAKING COMPETITION

Wuhan University of Technology has a good cooperative relationship with China Daily which is a Media with great influence in China. Due to this good relationship, China Daily entrusted our university with holding the 4TH CHINA DAILY BELT AND ROAD YOUTH ENGLISH SPEAKING COMPETITION among our international students in China.
On May 28th, 2022, the School of International Education (SIE) held the english speaking speech contest event to search for 5 top contestants who will participate in a domestic rematch organized by China Daily at a later date. The event was attended by teachers from SIE, international students (among 9 contestants to participate in the contest) and interested spectators.
The contest started with Vice Dean of SIE, Mr. Li Li, he introduced the general situation of the competition and looked forward to the excellent performance of the contestants. Then, international counselor Ms. Cai Cai giving an introduction about the event. She went on to introduce the five individuals who were going to be the judges of the contest which were: Vice Dean of SIE Mr. Li Li, international cooperation department of SIE Ms. Xiao Libin, teachers from International Student Center Ms. Lin Jian, Mr. David Gong and Mr. Musah Baba Imoro.

Then, she went on to introduce the 9 contestants and explained that each contestant has been a given number and were going to take the stage according to the number given to them. The contestants where:

Each contestant had 5 minutes to deliver their speech on the stage. After giving all the necessary information in regards to the competition, Ms. Cai Cai welcomed the contestants to take the stage and deliver their works.
WORKS & COMMENTS
The contestants took the stage on after the other, each of them showing great preparedness and confidence. Some of the contestants had prepared speeches and some gave beautiful well-written poetry works. All contestants were judged and given comments by the judges in areas they should improve and make better such as, time keeping, body language on stage, their confidence, their work relevance to the topic and voice quality. The contestants listened and took the judges' comments to heart and promised to work on the areas they where told to improve.
AWARDS
After the last of contestants took the stage, were judged and given comments on their works, the judges took the time to grade the contestants according to their works to get the contestants who would take the First, Second and Third Prize position for the contest. After much deliberation, the contestants who won the first to third price where announced, the First prize going to Leyli Hamytjanova from Turkmenistan.

The contest ended with Ms. Cai Cai giving the closing remarks were she thanked everyone who attended the event that is the teachers, spectators and the international students. She also gave her sincere gratitude to the judges and the contestants for their efforts and roles in the event to make the contest a success it was. The contestants also gave their gratitude to the School of International Education for organizing the event which gave them the opportunity to present and showcase their talents, the top three winners hoping to be chosen to go further and participate in the competition that will be hosted by China Daily.
