为培养中澳金融学本科项目学生的创新性思维能力，项目部坚持以“老带新、稳基础、再创新”的方式展开金融学专业学术讨论研究。项目部内四个年级的学生在来华留学生教学助理的帮助下，每周定期就课堂知识、金融专业和行业问题进行分小组讨论交流。该小组讨论交流形式对学生们的自主学习能力、专业英语能力和创新型思维能力提升效果显著，自各小组成立八个月以来，共撰写了7篇学术论文，均被国际会议收录。

在学术讨论交流的过程中，为帮助新入学的2017级学生尽快融入到小组活动中，澳方教师和来华留学生助教精心指导，高年级的同学承担了计量经济学知识点讲解、专业英语翻译和eviews软件学习组织的任务，在学习方法上“老带新”效果明显，帮助低年级学生制定学习计划，激发了学生在课堂外参加学术交流的热情，学生的批判思维和创新性思维得到了锻炼。
